Student Spotlight: Asha Deep-Dives Into the Digital World

When 20-year-old Asha Abdi joined RefuSHE’s Digital Literacy program, she came in with limited knowledge and an intense curiosity about technology. She had always wanted to understand the digital world better, especially because she volunteered with local organizations and saw how much stronger their work could be with an online presence. Still, she believed meaningful tech skills were only accessible through university.

Asha was selected as one of 30 young women to join the program. Since joining the program, Asha has learned practical skills she can use immediately. She now works confidently with Microsoft Office, designs simple graphics using Canva, writes professional emails and communicates better online. Asha says she no longer feels intimidated by computers or new applications. She now believes technology is something she can grow in and eventually build a career around.

Asha has already started applying what she has learned. She now posts her work and progress more intentionally on LinkedIn and Facebook, and she has taken on a volunteer role helping a community organization create and manage their social media content. This is a significant step forward for her and reflects the exact type of digital confidence the program aims to build.

Asha hopes to continue building digital platforms for community groups and eventually secure online work in communication and content creation. Her early progress shows how demand-driven digital training can open real opportunities for young women who are motivated to learn and ready to grow.
