Welcome RefuSHE's New Managing Director!
Dear RefuSHE Supporters,
Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the RefuSHE family – Dina Dukhqan!
On behalf of the US and Kenyan Board of Directors, we are delighted to announce that as of July 6, 2021, Dina has joined us as RefuSHE’s new Managing Director. This newly formed position leads our US-based team and operations and is responsible for securing the resources needed to ensure our organization’s long-term financial sustainability and health. Dina will work in partnership with Geoffrey Thige, our CEO, to support RefuSHE’s overall mission and vision.
Dina comes to RefuSHE with more than 20 years of experience in the field of global development and nonprofit organizational leadership. Throughout her career, Dina has supported organizations through startup, expansion, and change management stages. She’s focused on monitoring and evaluating programs to ensure alignment with organizational goals and led strategic planning and budget oversight to support organizational growth. Through her work with organizations such as Partners Global, Women for Women International, and American Near East Refugee Aid, she conducted assessments identifying needs, recommended program design structure, and succeeded in securing diverse multimillion-dollar funding portfolios from international and domestic aid agencies, government institutions, and individuals.
Dina is a thoughtful and dynamic problem solver, with a wealth of overseas and domestic experience. She is highly knowledgeable of gender-related issues and the refugee landscape and has built an expansive network working internationally in more than 40 countries including Jordan, West Bank & Gaza, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Rwanda, Nigeria, DRC, Syria, Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt.
As we embrace Dina and look towards the future, we also wish to acknowledge the remarkable work of Jailan Adly as RefuSHE’s CEO and subsequent Managing Director. When Jailan stepped into the CEO position in late 2018, she was charged with a change mandate. Together, we embarked on a journey that would set the organization on a trajectory for long-term sustainability and success.
Under Jailan’s leadership, RefuSHE took bold steps to increase its impact and elevate its work. Her strategic direction set us on a course of improved operational efficiency and elevated programmatic outcomes. In partnership with Geoffrey, Jailan made significant improvements to the organization’s overall administrative, operational, and programmatic structures. She was the central champion of our leadership transition and had a steadfast determination that RefuSHE should not only challenge the status quo but be a leader in the movement to decolonize the social sector.
During Jailan’s tenure, RefuSHE launched new projects and exciting partnerships that have put the organization on a trajectory of growth and innovation:
We entered into a partnership with Mastercard Foundation to design, develop, and launch an E-Learning & Wellness Platform for urban refugees
With the support of Imago Dei Fund, we developed a “Science of Trauma Workshop” that allows the girls and young women in our care to take agency over their own mental health
We launched a public commitment to deepen our mental health work and partnered with relevant experts to explore neuroscience-backed interventions and education
Our Artisan Collective took part in two accelerator programs that allowed us to build a roadmap for future growth: The Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship and the Acumen & IKEA Social Entrepreneurship East Africa Accelerator
We developed a partnership with CISCO Systems Inc. to build an IT Lab aimed to provide our girls and young women with modern digital literacy and IT skills
These bold changes were most recently recognized last month on World Refugee Day when RefuSHE was awarded the prestigious 2021 Sharjah International Award for Refugee Advocacy and Support.
We hope you will join us in paying tribute to our past while welcoming in our future! We look forward to Jailan’s continued impact as a trusted advisor and supporter of RefuSHE and welcome the outstanding contributions that Dina will surely bring to the entire team.
Now more than ever, refugees need our support. Your steadfast commitment to RefuSHE’s community of girls and young women is nothing short of inspiring. Thank you for joining us on this exciting, new journey!
Sincerely,
