HELEN ALTSHUL

Chief Executive Officer

Helen Altshul is an international development and humanitarian expert with over 25 years of experience, including 16 years in senior executive positions and 11 years of board-level governance. Before joining RefuSHE, Helen was based at the International Livestock Research Institute, supporting global research programs with management, monitoring and evaluation, and partnership-building activities. Prior to this, she worked for the International Non-Profit Organizations Adeso, Farm Africa, and Christian Aid in various senior management and leadership roles. Helen has lived in Kenya for 22 years and is a proud naturalized Kenyan citizen. She has worked internationally in 15 other African countries, including Burkina Faso, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda, as well as in Southeast Asia. She has expertise in strategic planning, change management, program design, fundraising, donor liaison, organizational capacity building, and individual coaching and mentoring, and has a strong interest in and understanding of social entrepreneurship and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Helen holds a Master of Science degree in Land Resource Management (Cranfield University) and Postgraduate Certificates in Cross-Sector Partnership (University of Cambridge) and Business Research Methods (Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University).
